EPOXY COATING MACHINE

ESC Series

DESCRIPTION

Micafil’s ESC Series of Epoxy Coaters have been designed and developed to provide the electric motor industry with a range of flexible machines suitable to accommodate production requirements starting from job shop requirements up to and including the highest automotive lines.

Three (3) basic design concepts make up the ESC Series of Epoxy Spray Coating machines.

The ESC-25 is arranged with a rotating mandrel, driven by a variable speed motor drive, which pivots from the load/unload position down into the spray chamber and upon completion of the spray cycle, pivots up for reload.  This is a single-station machine designed primarily for manual load/unload type operation but does have the capability of being automated.  This machine is, of course, our most flexible, easily changed over from one tooling type to another.

The Model ESC-45 is a 4-station, turret-style machine.  This design allows for the loading and unloading of the part, into one of the mandrels during the spray cycle.  This machine is more suitable for automating and the production output is approximately 20% higher than the ESC-25.

The Model ESC-AL for armatures and ESC-SL for stators are the high production workhorses of the Micafil line of epoxy coaters.  These are in-line systems which are equipped with automatic transfer systems through both preheat and cure ovens.  Included are part temperature monitoring and automatic load/unload to and from the spray chamber.

In some applications, the ESC-AL or ESC-SL can be double tooled for extremely high production requirements.

BENEFITS OF EPOXY COATING

  • A continuous insulation coating of predetermined thickness replaces components such as tubes, fiber or plastic end caps and slot liners.

  • Less magnet wire required due to shorter winding path also results in lower resistance and a cooler running motor.

  • More usable space in cell cavity for wire fill.

  • Lower reject rate due to elimination of insulator wind downs.

  • Less moisture absorbing materials in motor.

  • More efficient heat dissipation.

  • Epoxy powders have been UL approved for up to 130o C operating range.

SPECIFIC BENEFITS OF SPRAY COATING

  • Uniform coating thickness.

  • Eliminates possibilities of pinholes caused by escaping gases.

  • No extensive pre-cleaning operation required.

  • Flexible tooling changeovers, including stator to armature or armature to stator.

  • Better masking capabilities results in little or no overspray.

  • More repeatable results than fluidized bed dipping.

  • Less expensive than electrostatic coating.

  • Less wasted powder and less clean-up because powder is only applied to the desired areas, not all over then removed in some areas.

FEATURES

  • Heavy-duty construction.

  • Variable speed mandrel drive system.

  • Refrigerated water-cooled mandrels.

  • Manual powder recovery system.

  • Desiccant type air dryer.
